“When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are, anything your heart desires will come to you.” These lyrics are one of the most iconic lyrical associations to Walt Disney World. A chart topper for the Beatles was their song “Here comes the sun.” Who knew my first Magical Moment would bring these two musical legends together.
In 2001 I was in choir at my elementary school in Orlando, Florida. We had the opportunity to perform at Marketplace Waterside Stage in Downtown Disney. Our two songs were Harry Richman’s "Puttin’ on the Ritz" and the Beetles’ “Here comes the sun.” Anyone that knows Florida weather knows that in the spring and summer seasons there is always a good likelihood of afternoon showers. My choir took the stage and right when we got in our places a torrential downpour came over our audience. We sang our first song with no solo performances do to the potential risk of electrical equipment malfunctions caused by the Florida sun shower. Everyone could tell we were upset because of our impromptu change of our
performance especially the soaked parents sitting in audience. We collected our props for our next song and went out to sing, “Here comes the sun do do do do, here comes the sun and I say it’s alright!” After that verse, what happened next was nothing less than pure Disney magic, it stopped raining and the sun came out! There was a roaring applause when this happened which made our time on stage even better. When we left the stage the back ground music was Jiminy Cricket serenading the group with “When you wish upon a star” all of our dream came true that afternoon. When we left Downtown Disney beaming with the memories of the performance where we cleared the weather with our majestic voices. This was definitely a memory that I will never forget.
